New to the Northwest Nationals staff in 2008-09 is state and regional ODP coach Scott Newman.

Newman coached the Washington '88 girls to a national championship and the G89 was runner-up. In all, he has been a Region IV ODP coach for 14 years, 16 years with the state team and 15 seasons at the prep level. Newman also served as an assistant at both Montana and Willamette
