GU12 94 Blue recap from Chuck Sekyra

Congratulations on a wonderful weekend! Not only did so many of our teams win but more importantly so many of our teams played very well and just played some great soccer!
One game in particular that I was fortunate to watch was the GU12 94 Blue team against Washington Premier FC 94 Black on Saturday! Our girls won 1-0 but more impressively was how they did it. It has been a while since I have seen a team apply pressure like I witnessed on Saturday. They got numbers around the ball, were first to 50-50 balls and never stopped working for each other both offensively and defensively!

Reiser Bolsters Team in Its Rise to the Top
Reiser has quickly become a role player for
Columbia , and is one of just a few freshman who see significant playing time."As a freshman all you can do is work your hardest, but I’ve been really fortunate to the get the opportunities I’ve had," Reiser said. "Our coach gives everyone the opportunity to play, and you just have to show your skills."
Having played soccer for 16 of her 18 years, the game is definitely in Sophie Reiser’s blood. And in her first year at
Columbia , Reiser has been a key component in the Lions’ rise to the top of the Ivy League.
GK Tips for training on your own
If I had a nickel for each time someone asked me to give individual lessons.... I’d have a lot of nickels.

No sophomore slump for unlikely Yale star
By Graham Hays, ESPN.com
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Minutes into Yale's practice Friday, with sophomore star Crysti Howser already on the sideline after turning an ankle while warming up, a car traveling on one of the roads adjacent to the practice field plowed into the back of a stopped semitrailer, leaving the occupants unhurt but the car far the worse for wear.
Apparently, the bad luck that has plagued the women's soccer team is seeping into the soil in New Haven.

MILL CREEK - Only a hooligan would claim that Dani Oster can't carry a soccer team on her petite-yet-explosive frame.
Some players are natural goal scorers, and Oster certainly fits the mold.
But to lift the Jackson High Timberwolves from good to great this past fall, the dynamic Oster set out to not just score goals but to also set them up. Her successful mission helped Jackson earn a third-place state-tournament trophy and triggered a barrage of individual awards that continues even today: Oster, a center midfielder who scored 20 goals and tallied 17 assists in 22 games during her senior season, is a finalist for the Herald's 2005 Woman of the Year in Sports award.

NWN Dynamo family featured in Seattle Times Story
Every night at bedtime, Julie Hehn takes a head count.
She tugs at the brightly colored comforters and checks each bunk bed. She looks past the Hilary Duff posters, Bratz dolls and stuffed animals in search of children. Hehn peers into the basement TV room and steps over the schoolbooks to see who is where.
Things can get confusing when you have 21 children.

O'Brien Example Leads Seattle
by Lars Lifrak (Soccer 365)
Last fall Seattle Sounders midfielder Leighton O’Brien (NWN Coach for Rayos & Allegra) had a tough decision to make. During his team’s USL-First Division semifinal win over Montreal, he injured his foot. X-rays showed a stress fracture that required surgery and, even more troubling, doctors told him the fracture would probably completely break if he tried to play on it. That doesn’t sound like much of a decision, does it? Just don’t play. It wasn’t that simple since the Sounders next contest was the league’s championship game.
